Q - Math terms glossary



quadrant  One of the four parts into which the coordinate plane is divided by the x-axis and y-axis. Quadrants are labeled with Roman Numerals as shown below.
Labeling is counterclockwise.
quadrilateral A four-sided polygon.
Examples:
There are lots of ways to draw a quadrilateral.

quadrillion  A word name for 1,000,000,000,000,000 or fifteen zeroes.
quadrillionth  A word name for 0.00000 00000 00001 or fifteen places to the right of the decimal point.
quart (qt) A unit of volume in the U.S. system of measurement equal to 2 pints or 4 cups. One quart = 32 ounces. One quart 0.946 liters.
quintillion A word name for 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 or eighteen zeroes.
quintillionth  A word name for 0.00000 00000 00000 001 or eighteen places after the decimal point.
quotient  The result of dividing one number by another.
Here are two ways to indicate division.
